Limestone repairs

Specialised limestone repairs & repointing

Limestone is abundant in Perth and has been used extensively (and successfully) for over 150 years. Although it meets some engineering criteria, limestone is a very soft, porous media and requires periodical maintenance.

Mortarfix specialise in limestone repairs and repointing, rejuvenating your old walls and restoring their integrity.

A common problem with Limestone are lateral and settlement cracks

As with all brick work, the joints of limestone are required to be many times softer than the blocks or risk the blocks crumbling.

Limestone can also expand and contract with the weather, so incorrect hard cement mortars can act as a wedge to push limestone cracks further apart.

It is important that a correctly mixed mortar with a higher lime content be used for Limestone than the conventional cement mortars that are used for brickwork.
