Damaged Brick Repair

Repair and replace damaged bricks

Brick repair focuses on stabilising minor damage and restoring strength where possible. Replacement involves carefully removing damaged bricks and installing new or reclaimed bricks that match the existing wall.

We choose the least invasive option that delivers a durable result. The goal is always the same: a wall that’s structurally sound and visually seamless.

Damaged Brick Repair

Signs your bricks need replacing

Damaged brickwork usually announces itself well before it becomes a structural problem. The trick is knowing what you’re looking at.

Spalling is the most common issue we see in Perth. The face of the brick flakes, blisters or crumbles away, often leaving a rough, pitted surface. It’s typically caused by moisture getting into the brick and salt working its way back out, and it tends to show up worst on walls that cop the weather or sit close to the ground.

Other signs worth acting on include bricks that feel soft or powdery to the touch, bricks that have cracked through rather than just around the mortar, and white salt deposits building up across the surface. You may also be left with obvious damage after an old wall air conditioner is removed, where the surrounding brickwork was cut into during the original installation.

Brick Repair: how it works

Before we start your brick repair project, we source replacement bricks that match your existing wall as closely as possible, whether that means new stock or reclaimed bricks for older homes where the original run is long gone. Perth homes span decades of brick styles and colours, and a wall that’s been in the sun for thirty years doesn’t look like anything on a pallet at the supply yard.

We then match the mortar as well, since the joint colour makes just as much difference to how a repair reads from the street. Get both right and the work disappears into the wall.

Not all damaged brickwork needs replacing.

If you’re seeing cracks running diagonally through several courses, or a crack that’s widening over time, that usually points to structural movement rather than deteriorating bricks. Replacing the bricks alone won’t fix it, and the crack will simply come back.

In those cases the wall needs stabilising first. Have a look at our crack stitching service, or give us a call and we’ll work out which approach your wall actually needs.
